Are women still buying dating guides like “have him at HELLO: Confessions from 1,000 Guys About What Makes Them Fall In Love….or Never Call Back” by Rachel Greenwald (Three Rivers Press)?
As ubiquitous as spring pollen, dating guides for women land on my desk in padded envelopes with gushing press releases tucked inside the cover flap. No book jackets. They are nearly all paperbacks now—and rarely written by PhDs. Therapist/authors don’t sell anymore whether the DIY help being offered is on sex or some relationship-y topic. Readers want to hear it from “real people.” (Maybe they figured out that most sex therapist/authors got their PhDs from the Human Sexuality Institute in California, a worthy establishment in its own right, but not a university.)
Guys who run the gamut of ages, occupations, geographical locations and levels of obvious intelligence gave Greenwald “exit interviews” on first dates. Bottom line: There are not so many second dates. Yes, women make a lot of dumb mistakes from Too Much Information on everything from exes to their dietary requirements—to being too enthusiastic (or not enthusiastic enough). Women don’t get it that he didn’t call back because he isn’t interested (Not That Into You) but make excuses like: his fear of intimacy and bad timing, (Blame girlfriends who encourage that mentality.)
But men make dumb dating mistakes too!
Greenwald acknowledges this and states the obvious: She doesn’t do exit interviews with women because men wouldn’t buy that book. Men don’t buy relationship DIY books. They do buy my sex books which are all about technique and not about relationships. Another point in my favor: I love men, I love men’s bodies, I adore the cock.
Just thinking about cocks for a second distracted me—but here is my point:
Guys and Babes, you tell me what is really happening out there. Answer the survey questions (anonymously, of course). I will randomly select five names—and they will receive a copy of one of my Quiver Books titles, their choice.
- Age? Gender? Race? Relationship status?
- Do you date? How long have you been dating? Or do you just Hook-Up?
- Do you date or hook-up outside your relationship?
- What is a first-date deal breaker for you?
- Your best and/or worst date/hook-up story?
- Sex on the first date—yes or no
- Guys, do you call her again if you had sex on first date or hooked up with her? Babes, do you care if you hear from this guy again or not?
